Chiropractic Manipulation

Does your back get shooting pains? Is it difficult to move the ways you need to in order to get simple tasks done? Are your days and activities dictated by how much discomfort you’re willing to take? Don’t keep suffering with back and spinal pain. At the Injury Centers of Brevard in Brevard County, FL, our licensed physicians will diagnose the cause of your back and spinal pain, and if it’s determined that you have a subluxation, then we can perform expert chiropractic manipulation safely, effectively, and with little to no discomfort.

What is chiropractic manipulation?

When your body undergoes a trauma, whether that’s a workplace accident, car crash, or even the daily grinding and stretching that your body goes through, the spinal cord and vertebrae can be affected. If you have shooting pains that radiate from your back, limited or reduced function, and find you can’t do things that you should be able to, it’s possible that you may have what’s known as a subluxation. A subluxation is the term for a vertebrae whose position in your spine has been altered and is limiting function and causing discomfort. Subluxations can have damaging effects on your overall health and function, affecting your nervous system, circulatory system, and more. Chiropractic manipulation, also known as chiropractic adjustment, is the approach taken to treating most subluxations. Usually, we’ll have you come in and relax, and then our expert medical professional will perform the manipulation to relieve pressure on the joint and help reposition it, reducing the pain you experience due to pressed nerves and improving your range of function. A manipulation typically involves a high-velocity thrust to the affected vertebrae, causing a release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, which will produce an audible cracking sound, known as joint cavitation. This is almost always followed by a sensation of relief, although if you tense up during the procedure, you might experience brief and slight discomfort. If the adjustment isn’t accompanied by the tell-tale pop due to tensing or muscle splinting, then we may use ice packs, rest, or massage to help you relax before attempting again.

What is it used for?

Chiropractic manipulation is used to help relieve the discomfort brought on by a vertebra that has become misaligned, out of place, or otherwise shifted. This pushes on nerves, causes increased pressure in the joints, and can lead to significant discomfort for you. Subluxations are often brought on by trauma, such as injuries from falls, workplace mishaps, and car accidents, and having a manipulation performed can alleviate your symptoms as well as prevent them from recurring.
